A new life after terror – how Mosul in Iraq is coming to terms with its IS past

In 2014, the terrorist organisation Islamic State (IS) captured the Iraqi city of Mosul. It was split in two. The right bank of the Tigris was controlled by IS, the left bank by government forces.
In 2017, an international coalition fought back against the Islamic State. The city was destroyed in the process. To this day, the people of Mosul are trying to heal the wounds of that time. The city's river, the Tigris, promises healing and at the same time poses a danger – every summer dozens of children drown in its currents. A unit of lifeguards led by the charismatic General Faisal fights for every life.
